The tree lined banks of the Grand Canal offer refuge from the busy city, these narrow strips of greenery with their benches and pathways are like elongated coridors of parkland weaving their way with the canal through the inner city.

Last night the city was a buzz of excitement in anticipation of Ireland’s first match in the European Championships against Croatia. Supporters had gathered early in pubs and restaurants, especially in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter, Temple Bar. Its winding cobbled streets took on a great party mood as supporters and tourists enjoyed the match. But as we all know by now things did not go our way and Ireland were defeated 3-1.

Friday June 1st, 2012 18:08 Botanic Gardens – May.
During the month of May the gardens sees the stunning Handkerchief Tree and the large collection of Peonies come into flower. The Handkerchief Tree is also known as the Dove Tree or Ghost Tree, if you visit now, when the tree is still in full bloom, you will understand why it has acquired these names, it is one of the most striking sights as thousands of Handkerchief shaped white petals tremble in the slightest breeze.
Thursday May 31st, 2012 22:33 Wedding on the Beach – Malahide.

Last Saturday I was passing Malahide Beach, when I noticed that a wedding party had come over from the nearby Grand Hotel to take some wedding photo’s. It was a great idea as the weather was perfect with plenty of sunshine, the crowds on the beach were in for a pleasant surprise as the wedding party passed by. Fortunately I had my camera with me and I took the following shots.

Battle For The Bay – The annual two day Kitesurfing competition took place over the weekend on Dollymount Strand, Bull Island. The conditions were perfect with glorious sunshine and favourable onshore winds. The event has grown in popularity with each passing year and attracts Kitesurfers from all corners of Ireland and abroad.

The fantastic weather we are having lately has put a smile on everybody’s face, people are taking advantage of the high temperatures and glorious sunshine to get outdoor’s and enjoy themselves, the parks, restaurants and pubs are packed. After a dull April and early May with below average temperatures, the summer is finally here.

This is Dublin’s most popular park, it has a special place in the hearts of all Dubliner’s and is simply referred to as ‘The Green’. Located at the top of Grafton Street, the impressive main entrance to the park is through the Fusiliers Arch which was built to commemorate the Royal Dublin Fusiliers who died in the Second Boer War.
